Afghanistan plans to import Kazakh wheat through Turkmenistan

    July.26.2024

Kazakhstan's Vice-Premier Serik Zhumangarin, together with the delegations of Afghanistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, visited Beyneu grain terminal and got acquainted with its condition and capacity. The press service of the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan informs about this. On the same day, the Afghan representatives discussed the future of grain supply through the terminal with the head of the Food Corporation and the managers of the Beyneu terminal. In particular, the possibility of organizing an important and stable route for the export of Kazakh wheat to Afghanistan and Pakistan from the Beyneu terminal is considered. To implement the plans, it is necessary to build additional warehouses on the border and create logistics from the territory of Turkmenistan. Stakeholders plan to study the details of creating a new export route to supply Kazakh grain. The 26-hectare Beyneu terminal is located within the Mangistau region and has direct access to the Kazakh-Turkmen border. It is a promising logistics center with its 8-kilometer railway and other facilities. The terminal can simultaneously store 100,000 tons of grain, receive up to 500 wagons per day, and ship up to 2 million tons of product per year in packaged form and on grain carriers. Its capacity will be further expanded in the future.
