Turkmenistan and the EU strive to deepen relations in the transport sector

    July.26.2024

Turkmenistan and the European Union are strengthening cooperation in the transport sector. This was emphasized in an informal meeting between S. Palavanov, the ambassador of Turkmenistan to Belgium, and Taneli Lahti, head of the cabinet of the European Commissioner for International Cooperation. The officials discussed a number of existing bilateral and multilateral projects. The parties emphasized the growing importance of relations between Central Asia and the EU. The transportation system became the main focus. It was also discussed about the opening of a coordination platform in Turkmenistan in the near future. This platform will bring together Central Asian and EU transport ministers and will allow to develop closer cooperation in this sector and facilitate joint initiatives. An agreement on the creation of a coordination platform was reached in January this year during the Investors' Forum on EU-Central Asia transport links. The platform will monitor progress, strengthen cooperation and ensure sustainable development of the Caspian transport corridor.
